Lakṣmī-Nṛsiṃha Pañcaratnam
Śrī Ādi Śaṅkarācārya
Salutation to Nṛsiṃha, the half-man half-lion Lord, whose protective fury emerged from the pillar to defend the devotee (Prahlāda) and destroy the tyrant's arrogance. Beside him, Goddess Lakṣmī who calms his ferocity.
Salutation to the one whose mane radiates solar fire, whose claws destroy the ignorance that parades as strength, whose roars shake the mountains of pride and denial of the divine.
Salutation to the Lord who manifests anywhere and at any moment — needing no temple, auspicious hour, or ritual. Wherever there is a sincere devotee in peril, he appears, as he appeared from the pillar for Prahlāda.
Salutation to the pair — Lakṣmī and Nṛsiṃha — symbol that power (Nṛsiṃha) without grace (Lakṣmī) would be mere force, and grace without power would be sentiment without protection. Together, they are the complete refuge.
One who recites these five jewels of Lakṣmī-Nṛsiṃha in moments of distress is answered immediately: fear is dissolved, inner enemies (anger, greed, confusion) are annihilated, and the mind rests in divine grace.
