How to do Transcendental Meditation? This is a frequent question — and the official answer is: only with a certified teacher. But let's understand what this practice is and how it relates to traditional Vedic meditation.

What is Transcendental Meditation

The TM is a specific technique: - Personal mantra — given by a certified instructor - 20 minutes, 2 times a day — sitting, eyes closed - Effortless — the mantra is repeated without forced concentration - Standardized — everyone learns the same basic method

How it works

The idea is that the gentle repetition of the mantra leads the mind to transcend the grosser levels of thought, reaching a state of pure consciousness — complete inner silence.

TM vs. Traditional Vedic Meditation

Here it's important to make distinctions:

If TM helps you sit and calm your mind, great. Use it as preparation. But know that meditation, in tradition, is much more than a technique — it is part of a path of self-knowledge that includes study, reflection, and assimilation of the teaching.
