Anirvacanīya

Anirvacanīya is the ontological classification of māyā and the world in Vedānta Advaita: not sat (real — because sublimated by knowledge), not asat (unreal — because experienced). It is a third category, 'indefinable by means of the real/unreal pair'. This position is not evasion — it is rigor: trying to define māyā within the binary sat/asat violates its paradoxical nature. Classic example: the snake-in-the-rope is anirvacanīya — does not exist as snake (asat), but is seen (not total asat).
