Mature discernment — the clear and stable vision of the difference between real and unreal
Viveka-khyāti is matured discernment that becomes a permanent vision — the stable, unshakable perception of the difference between the real (ātman) and the unreal (anātman). In the Yoga Sūtra, it is the state preceding kaivalya (isolation). In Vedānta, viveka-khyāti indicates that discernment has ceased to be an intellectual exercise and has become the natural perspective of the wise (jñānī).
