Fundamental Concepts
The absolute, infinite, and non-dual reality
Brahman is the central concept of Vedānta. It refers to the ultimate, unlimited (ananta) reality, which is the material and efficient cause of the entire universe. Brahman is not a separate entity from the world — it is existence itself (sat), consciousness (cit), and fullness (ānanda). According to Śaṅkara, Brahman is nirguṇa (without limiting attributes) and is identical to ātman (the essential self).
