Fundamental Concepts
Pure consciousness — the principle of knowledge itself
Cit is pure consciousness — not an act of knowing something specific, but the principle of luminosity that makes all knowledge possible. Unlike thoughts (which come and go), cit is the constant light in which thoughts appear and disappear. It is the second aspect of Brahman (sat-cit-ānanda). Cit need not be illuminated by anything else — it is self-evident (svayam-prakāśa).
