Jīvātman

Jīvātman is ātman seen through the lens of upādhis (body, mind, karma). From its own point of view, it is limited, subject to birth and death, agent and patient. In reality — and this is the central message of Vedānta — jīvātman is identical to Paramātman. The difference is only upādhi, not svarūpa (essential nature). Jñāna dissolves identification with upādhis, revealing the jīvātman as what it has always been: Brahman.
