Manomaya

Manomaya-koṣa is the mental sheath: thoughts, emotions, desires. More subtle than prāṇamaya (vital), denser than vijñānamaya (discriminative intellect). In Taittirīya Upaniṣad 2, the five koṣas are presented in order of increasing subtlety: annamaya, prāṇamaya, manomaya, vijñānamaya, ānandamaya. All are apparent ātman, none is the real ātman — each is, in the end, negated (neti-neti) to recognize the Being that witnesses them.
