If you've never meditated before, a guided meditation is a great starting point. Someone leads you step-by-step as you learn the basics.

What to Expect
Your first guided meditation will feel strange. Your mind will seem more agitated than usual — but it isn't. You're just noticing what was always there.
This is good. It means you're paying attention.
Step-by-Step for Your First Time
* Choose a quiet place — it doesn't need to be silent, just free of interruptions * Sit comfortably — chair, cushion, sofa. Spine reasonably straight * Close your eyes — or keep them half-open, looking downwards * Follow the instructions — no judging, no analyzing. Just do it * When the mind wanders, return — this will happen many times. It's normal

How Long?
For beginners, 5-10 minutes is enough. Don't force long sessions at the start. Consistency matters more than duration.
The Next Step
Guided meditation is like training wheels. It's useful, necessary at first, but the goal is eventually to ride on your own. After a few weeks with a guide, try meditating on your own.
What Vedānta Adds
In the Vedānta tradition, meditation (dhyānam) is not an end in itself. It's a preparation of the mind to receive liberating knowledge. A restless mind cannot hear what Vedānta has to say. Meditation calms the mind. Vedānta reveals the truth.
