Epistemology
The knowing subject — the one who knows
Pramātā is the subject who employs a pramāṇa to know a prameya. In Vedānta's epistemological analysis, there are three components: pramātā (knower), prameya (object known), and pramāṇa (means of knowledge). At the empirical level, the pramātā is the jīva (individual). At the absolute level, the distinction between pramātā and prameya dissolves — only pure consciousness (cit) remains.
