Epistemology
Word as a means of knowledge — especially the revealed word (Veda)
Śabda pramāṇa is knowledge arising from the words of a reliable source (āpta). In the context of Vedānta, śabda refers specifically to the Veda (śruti) — the revealed word that is the only means of knowledge for Brahman. Brahman cannot be seen (pratyakṣa) nor inferred (anumāna), for it is not an object. Only the words of the Veda, operating as a mirror, can reveal to the seeker their own nature as Brahman.
