Sacred texts that reveal the knowledge of Brahman
Upaniṣad means 'to sit near' (the guru to receive the teaching). They are texts that form the final portion of the Vedas and contain the teaching about the identity between ātman and Brahman. The principal ones are 10 (with commentaries by Śaṅkara): Īśa, Kena, Kaṭha, Praśna, Muṇḍaka, Māṇḍūkya, Taittirīya, Aitareya, Chāndogya, and Bṛhadāraṇyaka.
