Psychology
Latent tendency, deep impression, conditioning
Vāsanā are deep tendencies that direct behavior without our noticing — like perfumes that impregnate a fabric. They form through repeated action: experience → impression (saṃskāra) → tendency (vāsanā) → impulse → new action. They can be śubha (auspicious) or aśubha (inauspicious). They are weakened by jñāna (knowledge), vairāgya (detachment), and abhyāsa (consistent practice).
