Mental modification — a thought or state arising in the mind
Vṛtti is a modification or wave in the antaḥkaraṇa — every thought, emotion, or perception is a vṛtti. In Vedānta, knowledge happens when the vṛtti of the antaḥkaraṇa takes the form of the object (viṣayākāra-vṛtti). The ātma-ākāra-vṛtti is the mental modification that takes the form of Brahman — it destroys ignorance and then dissolves itself, revealing pure consciousness.
