The ten names — the monastic order founded by Śaṅkara

Daśanāmī is the monastic order (sannyāsa-sampradāya) founded by Ādi Śaṅkara, organized in ten sub-orders: Giri, Puri, Bhāratī, Vana, Araṇya, Sāgara, Tīrtha, Āśrama, Sarasvatī, and Parvata. Each is associated with one of the four maṭhas (Śṛṅgerī, Dvārakā, Purī, Jyotirmaṭh). Upon receiving sannyāsa, the monk adopts one of these names.
