Reflection — resolving doubts and objections about the teaching

Manana is the second step of the Vedāntic method — independent reflection on what was heard. The student examines the teaching, raises doubts, looks for objections, and resolves them through reasoning. Manana transforms intellectual knowledge into firm conviction (niścaya). It is not doubting for its own sake but using intelligence to remove all objections that prevent full assimilation of the teaching.
