Listening — hearing the teaching systematically from the guru
Śravaṇa is the first of the three steps of the Vedāntic method: hearing the teaching (śravaṇa), reflecting (manana), and contemplating (nididhyāsana). It is not passive hearing but listening to the systematic unfolding of the Upaniṣads from a qualified teacher who uses a precise methodology to reveal the truth of non-duality. Śravaṇa includes understanding the texts and their implications.
