Qualifications
The four qualifications necessary for the study of Vedānta
Sādhana-catuṣṭaya are the four qualifications that prepare the mind to receive the teaching of Vedānta: (1) viveka — discrimination, (2) vairāgya — dispassion, (3) ṣaṭ-sampatti — the six virtues (śama, dama, uparati, titikṣā, śraddhā, samādhāna), and (4) mumukṣutva — burning desire for liberation. Without these qualifications, the mind is not mature enough to assimilate the teaching.
