Texts and Scriptures
Remembered texts — secondary scriptures that complement the Veda
Smṛti are texts composed by sages based on Vedic teaching — including the Bhagavad Gītā, Dharma Śāstras (like Manu Smṛti), Itihāsas (Mahābhārata, Rāmāyaṇa), and Purāṇas. Unlike śruti (direct revelation), smṛti is authored and derivative. When smṛti contradicts śruti, śruti prevails. However, the Bhagavad Gītā holds special status — being considered prasthāna-traya alongside the Upaniṣads and Brahma Sūtra.
