Devotional hymn — poem of praise and contemplation
Stotra is a hymn or poem of praise dedicated to a deity or the teaching. In Śaṅkara's tradition, stotras like Nirvāṇa Ṣaṭkam, Dakṣiṇāmūrti Stotram, and Bhaja Govindam combine devotion (bhakti) with philosophical teaching (jñāna). Stotras serve as devotional meditation and a vehicle for transmitting Vedāntic truths in memorable poetic form.
