Self-study — personal recitation and study of the scriptures
Svādhyāya is personal study and recitation of sacred scriptures — one of the fundamental practices recommended by the Taittirīya Upaniṣad (1.9.1): 'svādhyāya-pravacane ca' — study and teach. It includes both devotional recitation of mantras and reflective study of philosophical texts. Svādhyāya keeps the student connected to the teaching between formal classes and gradually deepens understanding.
