Titikṣā
तितिक्षास्त्रीलिङ्ग (feminine) · तिज् धातु (tij — to bear, endure) in desiderative form (titikṣ — to desire to endure) + अ प्रत्यय + टाप्
titikṣā
Qualifications
Forbearance, ability to endure pairs of opposites
Titikṣā is the fourth of the six virtues — the ability to endure heat and cold, pleasure and pain, praise and criticism without losing mental stability. Śaṅkara defines: 'Enduring all sufferings without retaliation and without mental lament.' It is not masochism nor rigid stoicism. It applies to the unavoidable, not the avoidable. If there is a practical solution, resolving is smarter than enduring.
