The six virtues — the set of mental disciplines for study
Ṣaṭ-sampatti is the third requirement of sādhana-catuṣṭaya — the six 'riches' or mental disciplines: (1) śama — mental serenity, (2) dama — sense control, (3) uparati — withdrawal, (4) titikṣā — forbearance, (5) śraddhā — grounded trust, (6) samādhāna — focus on the teaching. Together, they constitute the emotional maturity necessary for knowledge to operate.
